Next two days: the ridge takes over, hot and dry

The monsoon is taking a break again. Dew point has dropped from the low 60s we had earlier this month to about 50 this morning, and the barometer is climbing, sitting at 30.25 and still rising. That’s high pressure moving in, and it usually means sun and heat with the storms shut down.

You can see it in the dirt, too. My soil moisture has fallen from the mid-80s after those mid-August rains to 11 percent now. The ground has been drying fast.

Today & Wednesday. Hot and mostly sunny. I’d look for a high in the low 90s, light winds, and only a slim chance of an afternoon buildup over the Rim. If you don’t like the heat, get your walk in before 10 or treadmill at the gym.

Thursday. A touch hotter as the ridge settles in, probably mid 90s. Same dry sky, same low storm odds. The one thing I’m watching is the dew point: if it creeps back toward the mid 50s, the storm chance ticks up. Right now it’s headed the other way.

Both nights should cool off nicely with this drier air, lows around 68 to 70. That’s the upside of low humidity, the heat lets go after dark.

Fair warning on the outlook: this is my read off the station’s barometer and dew point, so treat the day-2 details as a best guess.

Written a little after 8 with a clear, quiet sky. We’ll see how the ridge actually behaves.
